ABOUT
Chike Ukaegbu was born in Nigeria on 12 June 1983 in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria to a family six siblings spread across five countries on four continents. As a well-traveled enthusiast of people and cultures, he finds inspiration in both the commonalities and differences that define us. BEFORE FAME
Chike left Aba, Abia state for the University of Lagos at age 17. By 19, he moved to New York City to study biomedical engineering. At 25, he started teaching Math at The City College of New York, where he remained for seven years, simultaneously pursuing various endeavors that enriched his experience. CAREER
In 2004, Chike became a Colin Powell Fellow on Public Policy. His dedication to addressing youth poverty, educational disadvantages, and the opportunity divide led to the creation of the HEROES Model for engaging youths and communities in 2006. In 2009, leveraging his HEROES model, Chike co-founded ReInc, a nonprofit organization aimed at empowering at-risk and disconnected youth through technology, entrepreneurship, and education.
Chike launched the Education and Entrepreneurship Leadership Fund in Nigeria in 2014, awarding 13 academic scholarships and seed capital to students and youth entrepreneurs. In 2015, he founded Startup52, New York City’s premier diversity-focused accelerator, aimed at improving access to capital and networks for founders from marginalized communities, including People of Color, women, veterans, those with special abilities, immigrants, seniors, and others. Recognized by NYC Mayor De Blasio and named among America’s Best Entrepreneurial Businesses by Entrepreneur Magazine, Startup52 has been hailed as America’s Most Diverse Tech Accelerator.
Chike is an educator, entrepreneur, investor, humanitarian, and biomedical engineer, dedicated to empowering underserved communities and advocating for diversity and inclusion in tech, corporate, educational, and entrepreneurial sectors. He is a prominent voice on topics related to millennial and untapped community engagement and continues to develop innovative frameworks and models to inspire and engage diverse audiences.
Chike has also consulted and advised international delegations from countries including China, England, South Africa, the EU, Brazil, Denmark, Argentina, Chile, and Nigeria on engaging millennials and Gen Z, supporting founders, and building inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystems.
