William Folorunso Kumuyi (born 6 June 1941) is a renowned Nigerian pastor, evangelist, and author. He is the convener of the Global Crusade with Kumuyi (GCK) and the founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, headquartered in Gbagada, Lagos, Nigeria.
William Folorunso Kumuyi was born in Erin-Ijesa, Osun State, Nigeria. He completed his secondary education at Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun State, and graduated with a first-class honors degree in Mathematics from the University of Ibadan in 1967. He later took a postgraduate course in Education at the University of Lagos. Kumuyi became a born-again Christian on April 5, 1964, at the age of 23.
Kumuyi has authored numerous Christian books and devotionals, contributing significantly to Christian literature and spiritual growth. His ministry, known for its strong emphasis on holiness and biblical teachings, has had a profound impact on millions of lives globally.
BEFORE FAME
Before becoming a pastor, William Folorunso Kumuyi was a mathematics lecturer. He graduated with a first-class honors degree in Mathematics from the University of Ibadan in 1967. Kumuyi then taught mathematics at Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun State, and later at the University of Lagos. His academic career was marked by his dedication to education and his exemplary performance as a lecturer. CAREER
In 1973, while lecturing in mathematics at the University of Lagos, William Folorunso Kumuyi began a Bible study group with 15 students, laying the foundation for the Deeper Christian Life Ministry. After being expelled from the Apostolic Faith Church in 1975 for preaching on the baptism of the Holy Spirit, he continued his ministry independently. By 1982, this ministry had evolved into the Deeper Life Bible Church.
As of 2005, it had over 800,000 affiliates. The church’s international headquarters in Gbagada, Lagos, can accommodate up to 30,000 worshippers, making it one of the largest in the world. The Deeper Life Conference Centre in Ogun State and the International Bible Training Centre in Ayobo, Lagos, are other notable places of worship associated with his ministry.
FAMILY LIFE
William Folorunso Kumuyi met Abiodun Olowu (his wife) in September 1972. She became one of his Bible study students and a member of his fledgling Christian ministry. They married on 13 September 1980 in Lagos and had two children, Jeremiah and John. Sadly, Mrs. Abiodun Kumuyi passed away on 11 April 2009.
Eighteen months later, exactly on 13 October 2010, Kumuyi married Folashade Adenike Blaize in London, UK. Folashade was the Administrator of the Deeper Life Bible Church in London. William Folorunso Kumuyi’s birthday date is 9 June.
