Stanley Okorie is a song writer and musician for African Magic epic sound tracks from Enugu state. His name may not be so popular in a Nigerian home but his fingerprints are very visible in Nollywood growth. He’s among the veterans who has produced and contributed memorable soundtracks to hundreds of Nigerian movies. His voice sounds so melodious on the beats of popular movie soundtrack ‘Billionaire‘.
As a singer-songwriter, he has produced early international and classic soundtracks like ‘Compromise’, ‘Atrocity’, ‘Evil Genius’ and ‘Karishika (Queen of Demon)’ from the 1996 horror film. Additionally, he wrote and voiced ‘I Go Chop Your Dollar’ soundtrack in the movie “The Master” and performed by Nkem Owoh’s music. BEFORE FAME
Stanley Okorie’s journey into Nollywood soundtrack catalogue is a story of grass to grace. He studied and for a Master’s degree in Mass Communication at the University of Lagos (Unilag) before becoming a leading music producer in Nollywood.
Stanley didn’t have plans to become an artistic music producer for Nollywood. Before he became famous, he started with painting artwork but his grandmother didn’t like it. She however encouraged him to pursue a better career path. He later tried politics but it didn’t work out.
Okorie Stanley moved to Lagos state from Nssuka in Enugu state for his tertiary education. While he was still schooling in UNILAG, he was still painting and singing before his friends told him they enjoy the sound of his voice and encouraged him to explore a music career. Due to these advise from friends, he shifted to music fully and abandoned his painting career. In the light of this, he met another resistance from his dad who’s a university professor. His father wanted a more promising career path for his first son. But, despite the challenges and pressure, he chose to follow his music passion.
Stanley Okorie began by trying to gain valuable experience in a music studio as a backup singer before venturing into Nollywood music to reveal his skills as a producer, songwriter, and sound engineer. Okorie spent more time in the studio, recording and assisting Okposo with soundtrack production for Nollywood films.
CAREER
Most of the soundtracks played in Nollywood movies has Stanley Okorie’s voice which keeps him often behind the scenes. His professional work as a talented music producer, has made history in the soundtrack & music industry.
As a former gospel artist and lead singer for the Grace band, Okorie produced gospel-themed songs, including the famous ‘Jesus I Love You’. In May 2, 2022, he released “Let the Spirit of the Lord Come Down” and “Goodness of God” Volume 1&2. He’s the CEO of ‘Dikachor Ltd: Stanley Okorie’s MUSIC’.
Stanley Okorie has worked with Klint Studios and Midtown, that has ownership connection with Johnson Davidson. But it was a new friend he met in Lagos; Sammie Okposo (a musician and keyboardist), that played a transformative role in his career. He even shared an apartment with Sammie for some months. Meeting this music partner encouraged him to leave live music sounds and focused more in studio music because it’s sound can be fine-tuned, unlike live music that sounds noisy.
Mr. Stanley Okorie’s first movie soundtrack is in the movie titled ‘Compromise’ in 1996. This movie project brought him into limelight as well marked his initiation into the Nollywood film scores.
From there, he started collaborating more with Sammie. Even though they both have success story from their collaborations, it didn’t prevent misunderstanding between them. Hitherto, a creative tensions emerged between Okorie and Okposo because Okorie was spending more time on his projects while abandoning their collaboration. The clashes between both of them grew, leading to a unique disagreement. However, they later came to a better resolution and agreement; Okposo would play for Okorie while Okorie would write for Okposo. This agreement saw a longer partnership that produces iconic soundtracks in the Nollywood movie industry.
FAMILY LIFE
Stanley Okorie hold a degree in mass communication from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nssuka and a master’s degree from University of Lagos popularly known as UNILAG. He is married to an undisclosed wife and unrecorded number of children. He practically lives a private life, keeping his family whereabouts away from social media and interviews. He focus more on his music career and sound tracks contributions in Nollywood movies and cinema.
ASSOCIATED WITH
Apart from of live and studio music, Stanley Okorie has tried his hands on film making. He has successfully directed two films during a course he took in filming/movie school in Ontario, Canada. He is still working on completing his new and upcoming album, ‘Best of Stanley’.
