Born on June 9, 1977, in Udi, Enugu State, southeastern Nigeria, Obiora Nwokolobia-Agu, better known as Obiora Obiwon, is a popular Nigerian artist known for his roles as a singer, musician, songwriter, recording artist, music minister, and evangelist. His artistic journey has spanned various genres including urban contemporary gospel, R&B, soul, and hip hop. With a career that began in 2005, Obiwon has not only made his mark as a musician but also as an event host and media consultant. Throughout his years in the industry, he has remained dedicated to spreading his message through music, earning him recognition both within Nigeria and internationally.
BEFORE FAME
Obiwon studied Agricultural Extension at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where he graduated in 2001. As a young chap, he loved singing while in the university and therefore continued to pursue his passion for music. During his time at university, he displayed his recording and live performance skills within the music industry of eastern Nigeria.
After migrating to Lagos in 2002 for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Obiwon initially worked at a bank while pursuing a music career with the group Thorobreds. Before Obiwon became famous with hit hit track “Onyinye”, he played in so many live performances including weddings, birthdays, bars and night clubs.
CAREER
Obiora Obiwon’s musical journey began at a young age, inspired by his elder brother’s HipHop and R’n’B records. His father, Sir Humphrey Nwokolobia-Agu, a folk and classical music composer and arranger in Enugu, also influenced his musical upbringing. By the age of 15, Obiwon had already ventured into songwriting and performing, showcasing his talents on the local streets and hangouts.
He released his debut album “Overture” in 2006, known for the hit ballad “Onyinye”. Transitioning to gospel music in 2008, he released “The Rebirth” album. He received his first gospel music award in 2013 for “F.a.t.h.e.r 2.0”. His album “Gold Water” received accolades at the Crystal Awards 2014 and Nigerian Gospel Music Awards. In 2015, he released his fourth album “Floodgates: The Beginning Of The New Overflow”, followed by several singles and touring Christian events.

Obiora Obiwon is the among the children of a folk and classical music composer and arranger, Sir Humphrey Nwokolobia-Agu, from Eastern Nigeria.
Obiwon married Nkechi Obioma Ezeife (wife) on October 22, 2011. Together, they have a daughter named Nmesioma Michelle, born on September 4, 2012, and a son named Chimdalu Michael, born on September 23, 2014. Obiora Obiwon’s birthday is 9 June.
