Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu is the real name of Burna Boy who was born 2 July 1991, in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. Burna boy a is professional Afrobeats, Dancehall, Hip Hop, Reggae and Pop Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. He is known for his completely different baritone voice and vocal texture, singing in a both British English, Yoruba & Igbo language and Nigerian Pidgin English boosting his popularity across Africa.

Burna boy became famous in the year 2012 after recording and releasing a single “Like to Party”, which is a meledious single from his debut studio album L.I.F.E in 2013. Burna Boy later in 2017 signed a record deal with Atlantic Records in the US making his music label to be under Warner Music Group (the parent company). He used this label to release his third and fourth studio album, “Outside” and “African Giant – collateral damage” respectively, which lead him to be named an Apple Music Up Next artist. BEFORE FAME

Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu aka Burna Boy’s birthday is July 2, 1991, and was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria into the family of Mr. And Mrs. Samuel and Bose Ogulu. He is Yoruba by tribe. Burna Boy grew up in PH, Southern Nigeria and started making his own beats using free FL Studio as a freelancer. He attended Corona Secondary School in Agbara, Ogun State (western Nigeria), before relocating to London, England, to further his studies.

From 2008 to 2009, he studied media technology at the University of Sussex, and from 2009 to 2010, he studied media communications and culture at Oxford Brookes University. After his studies, Burna Boy returned to Port Harcourt and completed a one year-long internship at Rhythm 93.7 FM. He finally relocated to Lagos to launch his music career.

In 2015, he founded the record label Spaceship Entertainment. Burna Boy achieved international success with his albums Outside (2018) and African Giant (2019). His album Twice as Tall won the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album in 2021. In 2023, he made history by becoming the first African artist to headline and sell out a stadium show in the United States.

FAMILY LIFE

Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu (Burna Boy) is the son of Samuel Ogulu, a local welder and fabricator. His mother Bose Ogulu worked as a foreign language teacher and language translator in school and at a private company respectively. In history, his grand dad Benson Idonije once managed Fela Kuti. Burna Boy’s life saw his mother as his career manager.

Burna Boy has two siblings, Nissi Ogulu and Ronami Ogulu. Nissi, the youngest sister, is a multi-talented person, a songwriter, singer, and mechanical engineer. She studied Design at Warwick University in the UK and is also skilled in fine art, creative digital design, animation, philanthropy, and dance. Burna Boy dated British rapper Stefflon Don from 2018 to 2022.
