Tope Oshin (born 10 June 1979) is a renowned Nigerian television and film director, producer, and casting director. In 2019, she was listed as one of the most influential Nigerians in film. Pulse magazine recognized her in 2015 as one of the “9 Nigerian female movie directors you should know” in the Nollywood film industry. In March 2018, during Women’s History Month, OkayAfrica celebrated Tope as one of the Okay100 Women, an interactive campaign honoring extraordinary women from Africa and the diaspora who are making significant contributions across various industries and positively impacting their communities and the world.
BEFORE FAME
Tope Oshin studied Economics at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, before shifting her focus to Theatre Arts, TV & Film Production at Lagos State University. Her growing passion for film making led her to study Film Production and Cinematography at Colorado Film School in Denver and Met Film School at Ealing Studios in London. CAREER
Tope Oshin, initially an actor for 12 years, transitioned into directing after roles in films like “Relentless.” She worked as an associate producer and assistant director for “The Apprentice Africa” before directing popular African TV dramas such as “Hush,” “Hotel Majestic,” “Tinsel,” and “MTV Shuga.” Known for her successful feature films “Up North” and “New Money,” Tope also produced top box office hits like “Fifty” and “The Wedding Party 2.”
In 2016, she created the documentary “Amaka’s Kin: The Women Of Nollywood” to honor filmmaker Amaka Igwe and highlight the challenges faced by female directors in Nollywood. In 2017, she presented the BBC documentary “Nigeria-Shooting It Like A Woman,” celebrating new women filmmakers in Nollywood.
Tope faced controversy for her 2018 film “We Don’t Live Here Anymore,” a Queer film that received a limited release but garnered awards and nominations. As a casting director, she worked on several projects, including the MTV series “Shuga.” Through her company, Sunbow Productions, she produced Season 8 of “MTV Shuga Naija” and directed Season 6. In 2015, Tope served as a juror for the International Emmy Awards.

Tope Oshin comes from a devout Christian family. During her childhood, she enjoyed drawing, singing, and dancing, with dreams of becoming a painter. In 2002, she married screenwriter Yinka Ogun, and their marriage, which ended in 2014, produced four children of which two of them are twins. Tope Oshin children’s names are Ayomipe Ogun, Oluwaferanmi Ogun, Korede Ogun and Mayowa Ogun. She is currently married to a new partner; Daniel Ademinokan since 2023.
